Egypt is my Mama!!

I have lately developed this strange sense of patriotism, merged with a smitten attitude towards Egypt. I think it must be the weather. We don’t really get an Autumn, but we get this nice chill in the air and it feels like the sky has always just rained. Streets don’t feel as crowded, and well, it all looks so pretty.

I’m not sure why though. I’ve never felt indebted to my country for the education it bestowed upon me, nor nostalgic for the streets I grew up in. True it’s partly because I traveled for the most part of my childhood, but still, the feeling is new, I’ve been settled here for almost 9 years now, and it’s all very new...I love Egypt!

I don’t care if it’s over populated or underdeveloped, I don’t care about the polluted air and the crowded streets. Honestly, this town’s got soul!

True it makes me sad to constantly notice all the potential that goes to waste, but I can’t help but be proud of her. I can’t help but smile at the people who smile relentlessly back. I read somewhere that Egyptian citizens are the second or third most satisfied population in the world. I joke about it of course, what are they satisfied with exactly, is beyond me, but the fact that they are at all, is exactly why I’m in love with them! These people have nothing, and they still manage to Thank God or praise the lord at the end of practically every sentence.

Many times I curse at the general average stupidity, sometimes I even generalize and just hate! However, yesterday, I realized I’m actually sad about the general average two-digit IQ! I wonder where this country can be going. It’s like the people just refuse to have any common sense. They’re turning ruder, nastier, stupider, and just sadder.

They might swerve at me madly with their cars, grope me on the streets, and call me names like cat and make noises that resemble ... well...anyway.

I still love it here anyway. Blush!

And As the cheesy Egyptian song goes...Egypt is my mother:D.LOL

Oh, what a charming and heart-warming article!! Thanks for this little peek into Egypt and Cairo Sarah!! The text AND the photo make me want to go there. NOW!

You have a really cool attitude towards your country and capital. Balanced and normal.

I’m British and it’s the same for me. Yes, my country hasn’t always done good things but then again neither has any other country!

I’m proud of what’s GOOD about my country. It’s my right and my duty. I am not responsible for it’s history. I just love the here and now everyday country I come from.

SUPER STUFF!

Hi!! I don’t think you’re luckyLOL.

I just think we get what we deserve, be it good or be it bad. (God, that sounds like preaching, but you know it isn’t, particularly coming from me:):):)

Sarah..

What a joy to read this post.. I can completely relate..

I think it can be easy to get lost and place false blame on our ”motherland” I have raged about Mexico..how she is failing us, her deceitful, violent, hateful ways....but in the end.....

I know the truth.. I live in a country full of beauty: mountains, forest, deserts, and beaches..all of God’s glories wrapped into one, neat little package..Culture thrives, opening the hearts to all who know her, or even stop in for a visit.

My people are kind, warm and love life. They work hard, are honest, maintain FAMILY above all..wishing for PEACE to be one with HER, our Mother, Mexico.

We should always keep in mind what we have...The ignorance and hate within society is Not part of HER; these things have only taken forced possession of small parts of her..she will continue, strong and glorious.

You said it all Oscar..you know what’s so funny? One day after I wrote this, I had to go to the traffic department to renew my car license, it took 5 HOURS AND A HALF! The woman behind the computer was UNBELIEVABLY rude, slow, provocative and kept pretending like she couldn’t hear anyone standing in line. She had no idea how to work the computer that happened to freeze every 5 minutes, so she would call for ’technical support’, which was a man in black overalls, who would come by, bend over, hit the restart button and walk away.
5&1/2 HOURS!!!!!!!!!
Ya...I love Egypt..but sometimes it’s just so damn hard!!!

Sarah, are you SURE you live in Egypt and aren’t really...I don’t know, my NEIGHBOR??? There are just way too many coincidences..

Last year my in-laws came for Christmas from the states, my wife and oldest son drove all day to pick the up at the border..where they were in line, outside in a cold wind storm for 11 hours..Once they finally got inside the building it was another 3 hours of line before they finally got the tourist permits...NUTS!
