Music is Prayer...Now DANCE
Recently, I’ve started paying a little more attention to the music scene in Egypt, and listen more closely to the locals that have blown me away with their talent and tunes!
I believe making it in the local Music scene, especially in a country like Egypt, carries so many more meanings with it, rather than being proud and all, which I am of course, I’m more impressed than anything.
For Jazz lovers, check out Eftekasat, an Egyptian Oriental jazz band
http://www.myspace.com/Eftekasat
Eftekasat are one of the most original sounds in Egypt, and have successfully entered the international music scene too, and are soon to be performing in California, for more info, check them out!
Recommending : Mouled Sidi El-Latini (the Latin dervish) single.
For a more Egyptian Oriental sound, check out Wust El Balad, meaning Down Town, a group of young men who tastefully pick out their lyrics and tunes carefully, and give their music a very local edge. Though their songs are in arabic, their music is universal enough.

Recommending: Shams El Nahar/ Antika
Like Jelly : Now this band managed to brilliantly catch people’s attention with their excellent covers, unique originals, and funny but meaningful lyrics. Influences like The Beatles, Dave Mathews Band, Dispatch, Jack Johnson, Bob Dylan, Jason Mraz... Sounds Like? Jelly...
Check the boys out(and Sarah the drummer) at http://www.myspace.com/likejellymusic
For fans of the Egyptian female musical talents, comes my first recommendation, Nadya Shanab...a fusion of acoustic and folk rock, her very egyptian voice is only one of her very unique characteristics. Check Nadya out at
http://www.myspace.com/nshanab
Now if you’re interested in a John Mayery-Jason Mrazy-Dave Mathewsy kinda thing, you have to check out this guy. His originals sound like something you should be hearing on the radio, and his covers are just as original. Shady Ahmed (previously known as JD) can be found on iTunes as well, look for his debut album “The Vintage Sessions” ...All it takes is this guy and his guitar..enjoy!
Check him out on http://www.myspace.com/shadyahmed
Shady also happens to be lead vocals in Like Jelly, as well as local rock band Kravin...
Last, but not least, a different taste..for all you house lovers out there..very original mixes by two very talented young men, HANAFI & DREADZ.Reviewed by international DJ’s like John Kelly and DJ Antoine, you must have a taste of their most recent mix ‘Unique Sessions 4‘
So check it out guys, tell me what you think, and most of all, tell them what you think.
Special Thanks to El Sawy Culture wheel...for giving us Egyptians and everyone who lives here...the chance to express ourselves artistically.
